Benz Named Academic All-Area

In addition to his shot-stopping skills, Aaron Benz proved to be very helpful in the clearing game for the Eagles through the year. Benz finished with a 9-3 mark in the cage.
Benz missed the first six games of the year with a hand injury. The Louisville native returned to the Eastern line-up for a 10 save effort in a 14-6 home win over Messiah College, and he turned away 18 Ursinus shots in a 10-9 win over the Bears in his second game back. Benz turned away nearly 60% of the shots he faced on the year and was spectacular in Eastern's overtime win over Widener to help the Eagles secure their first MAC Championship and a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Benz stopped 19 shots and was named as the Outstanding Player of the Championships.
A math major in the Templeton Honors College, Benz spent his fall semester in Scotland studying at St. Andrews. A first-team All-Freedom selection, Benz was one of nine Eastern Lacrosse athletes named to the 2012 MAC Academic Honor Roll.
Cabrini College defender John McSorley was tabbed as the area performer of the year.
