#10: Walk-Off Wins Keep Hope Alive

Eastern Baseball kept post season hopes alive with a pair of wins in the final at bat in a home doubleheader against Delaware Valley College on April 9.
The thrilling late-inning heroics, combined with the urgency of the moment led Eastern fans to write in these games as one of the stories of the year. While Baseball's play-off push ultimately faltered in the final weekend, the Eagles produced a winning record and showed great resiliency as they battled for the final spot.
Another example of the competitive nature of the squad came in the final weekend with Freedom-leading Misericordia in town. The Cougars jumped to an 18-5 lead, but the Eagles scratched back with 10 straight runs, and the Cougars needed a pair of sterling efforts in the field to thwart the comeback in the ninth.
The Eagles fell just one win short of a program-high 21 and finished with a winning record for just the second time since 2000.
"Nothing compares to a walk-off win," one fan noted, "and to do it twice in a day made it extra-special." Another fan noted that he believed baseball would be a top story in 2012-13.
Eastern University Athletics enjoyed perhaps its most successful year to date in the '11-'12 academic year.
