Midkiff Steps Down from Eastern Baseball

Matt Midkiff leaves Eastern baseball after recording a pair of 20 win seasons in his time at the helm.
He will not be in unfamiliar territory. Midkiff came to Eastern four years ago after serving as an assistant for the Garnet for two years.
Four years ago Midkiff stepped into a program in mid-summer with an undersized roster with very limited pitching. After a 3-29 opening campaign, Midkiff and his staff unveiled a much improved squad in his second season. After going win-less in the Freedom Conference in year one, the Eagles were in the play-off hunt until the final series of the season in 2010.
After a step backward in 2011, the Eagles bounced back in 2012 with a 21-win campaign. As important, much of the progress was made with young players who developed in the Eastern program. Under his leadership, Eastern baseball also took several initial steps in a facility improvement plan.
"We
wish Matt all the best as he moves into this new situation," said
Eastern Athletic Director Brad Fields, "While we are sad to see him go,
we have great expectations for the future of our baseball program. Matt
and his staff made great strides in his four years here and we are
grateful for the work he did to build the program."
