Men's Golf Outshoots Rosemont
Eastern freshman Ryan Torresin shot a 72 (two strokes over par), the lowest stroke total in program history. Eastern assistant coach Derek Smith praised Torresin after he led the Eagles to victory. "Ryan stepped up in a huge way today and played steady golf on extremely difficult greens," Smith said. "He had birdie putts on almost every hole, and burned the edges all day. It's awesome to see him get his first win out of the way this early in his college career, and I anticipate there will be many more. He is a special talent that makes everyone around him better."
Head coach Mark Birtwistle added that it was great to see Torresin making an impact on the competition as a young player. "Our goal was to get our program back into conference contention, and Ryan will be a big factor in that over the next few years," Birtwistle said. "As we build around him, the program will begin to make its mark."
Eastern won at Jeffersonville without freshman Logan Mauer, who shot a 75 last week at Bent Creek. Smith expects Mauer to be back for the Ursinus Invitational on Tuesday at Raven's Claw Golf Club.
Eastern's team scores from Saturday are listed below:
Ryan Torresin - 72
