Eagles Race to Third in Both Races

Josie Rupert finished 5th overall at Messiah.

Eastern University Cross Country raced to a pair of third place finishes at the Messiah College Falcon Invitational.

Led by Josie Rupert's fifth place finish, the women finished only four points behind Peen State Berks. The men, running without two of their top three runners, ran to a solid third place finish behind the host Falcons and PSU-Berks.

Colin Gordon was the ninth collegiate runner to finish the eight kilometer race. His 29:28 was a very respectable time on the hilly Central Pennsylvania course.

"This was a little bit of a nasty, hilly course," Head Coach Mike Wilson said of the day, "but we had several runners really do well on it. We are getting better. We had some times drop, but I think we will really notice it in the times when we get into some of the bigger meets coming up."

Caleb Fitzgerald finished less than a minute behind Gordon as the second Eastern runner.

Rupert again was the top performer for the Eagles. The sophomore finished less than a minute behind the race winner over the six kilometer course. As evidence of the progress the team is making over the season, Wilson pointed to the performance of Steph Hogan. The first year runner ran a personal-best 26:41.

The Eagles race at DeSales next week in a meet that Wilson believes will help his squad to drop times as the team points toward the MAC Race at the end of the month.
