Cross Country Races At MAC Championships
The Eastern women's team finished seventh overall while the men finished 10th. Both teams improved their standings from last season's championships where the women finished eighth of 13 teams and the men finished 11th of 14.
Eastern's Josey Rupert took 26th place in the women's 6k with a time of 25:53.84. In the championships last year, which featured a surprise October snowstorm, Rupert ran a 27:03.40. Eagles' coach Mike Wilson saw significant improvement in Carrie Burke's and Kasia Thomas's times this race; each trimmed off 10 seconds from their previous race. Burke finished fourth for Eastern at 27:44.49 and Thomas finished seventh with a 28:36.86.
In the men's 8k, Colin Gordon led the Eagles with a time of 29:03.73. Freshman Nicholas Trombley finished second with a 30:09.66. Coach Wilson noted that it was great to see Trombley and fellow freshman Aaron Reed finish in the top five for Eastern. Reed finished fourth for Eastern with a time of 30:57.22.
Coach Wilson said that he is encouraged by the teams' improvement and that the top five finishers for both teams will be able to return for next season as well.
The Eagles will compete in the NCAA Regionals Nov. 10, in Newville, Pa.
