Bonner Named NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic

Sean Bonner earned All-Region and All-Conference honors in 2012.

KANSAS CITY, Kan.- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America this afternoon released All-Region lists for the eight Division III Regions. Eastern University midfielder Sean Bonner was recognized by Region Coaches as a 3rd team All-Mid-Atlantic performer. It is the first All-Region honor for Bonner.

Bonner becomes the third Eastern player in the last three years to be recognized on the Mid-Atlantic Region team. Phil Mantua earned a spot in 2010, and James Le was recognized in 2011. The junior midfielder from North Penn High School missed the last four and a half games of the year after sustaining an injury in Eastern's 3-0 homecoming win over Wilkes.

Prior to getting hurt, Bonner was the engine in the Eastern midfield. Though he did not record a goal or an assist in the 2012 campaign, league coaches recognized the importance of his ball-winning and distribution by naming him a First Team All Freedom Performer, and coaches in the region saw the same thing in selecting him to the All-Region squad. Eastern fell by identical 2-1 margins in the two league games immediately following Bonner's season-ending injury.

Bonner is one six juniors on an Eastern roster that is slated to return all but two players for next fall. Eastern finished the 2012 campaign at 9-5-1 but was a disappointing 3-4 in Freedom Conference competition.

The NSCAA will select Division III All-Americans from the eight All-Region teams.
