ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Women's Lacrosse started its 2013 season with a home game against Swarthmore College, falling 14-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Swarthmore Garnet scored early and often, leading 10-0 after the first 19 minutes and 13-0 at halftime.

Eastern's Victoria Graham scored with 1:47 left in the game to help Eastern avoid the shutout.

Swarthmore secured 14 draw controls to Eastern's three and were hard to stop after winning the draw. The Garnet turned the ball over just eight times. Swarthmore fired off 34 shots (30 on goal) and Eastern's rookie goalie Cortney Andes picked up 16 saves (.533 save percentage).

The Eagles placed 10 shots on goal. Swarthmore's goalie Michelle Ammerman earned the win after denying three shots for the first half shutout. Annalise Penikis, who scored 68 goals last season, led the Garnet with three goals Saturday.

The Eagles play two games during spring break, traveling to Muhlenberg on Wednesday and Widener next Saturday.
