Eagles Roughed Up By No. 4 Cortland

First baseman Joe Grato swings for one of his two hits Sunday.
Eastern's starting pitcher Ernie Stiegler held Cortland to one hit through four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth. A lead-off walk led to the Red Dragons loading the bases and scoring four in the fifth. The Red Dragons added another run in the sixth and seventh, four more in the eighth and batted around in the ninth to add six more.
The Eagles' run came in the third inning. Freshman Angelo Kelly singled to left and junior Dillon Schwartzer followed with a single up the middle that advanced Kelly to third. Senior Greg DeSarro drifted a ball deep enough into right to bring Kelly home on the sacrifice fly. Kelly, batting in the lead off spot in the first two games this season, batted 3-for-5 Sunday.
Freshman first baseman Joe Grato also had a multiple hit game, going 2-for-4 at the plate. The two freshmen posted five of Eastern's seven hits. The Eagles left 10 runners on base.
Eastern (0-2) will play Manchester University on Monday at 9 a.m.
The Eagles are playing their spring break games at the Cal Ripken Experience, a turf-field complex with dimensions modeled after classic baseball stadiums. Sunday's game was played in the Cal Ripken Experience's Ebbets Field.
