Eagles Drop Conference Doubleheader
ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Baseball dropped two conference games against FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon, losing 6-2 and 12-6.
The Eagles' offense scored in four of the 14 innings played Saturday.
Junior outfielder Tyler Orr clubbed his third home run of the season in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Devils homered twice in game one and held the Eagles scoreless through the first three innings. Eastern scored in the fourth inning after Tyler Orr reached on a hit-by-pitch, stole second, and was batted home by Mark Royer's double to left field. Royer reached on all three plate appearances in game one, getting two hits and a hit-by-pitch.
The Eagles trailed 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Eric Rossi doubled to right field to lead off the inning and advanced to third on the throw. Greg DeSarro, the next batter, smacked a double to score Rossi. However, the Eagles were unable to further capitalize on the lead-off hits and were held scoreless the remainder of the game.
In game two, the Eagles' bats were silent through the first three innings. Devils' pitcher AJ Pichalski retired the first eight Eastern batters in order. Dillon Schwartzer broke up the perfect game with a single to right, but Schwartzer was gunned down attempting to reach second on the play. Meanwhile, the Devils had scored six runs through the first three innings. The Eagles responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Angelo Kelly and Eric Rossi began the inning with a single and then a double. Joe Grato brought Kelly home with a sacrifice fly to left and then Tyler Orr went deep, smacking his third home run of the season, all three of which have gone over the fence in left center.
However, the Devils batted around in the fifth, posting six runs and putting the game out of reach. The Eagles did put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, but ultimately fell 12-6.
The Eagles finish the series at FDU-Florham at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
