AJ Ryan was named Freedom Conference Defensive Player of the Week. He had 11 ground balls in Eastern's 12-3 win over Messiah College.

ANNVILLE, Pa.- The Middle Atlantic Conference Office released weekly awards for the last week in March. For his work at the face-off X, Eastern University midfielder AJ Ryan was selected as the Freedom Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Ryan, who missed time earlier in the year with injury, is back to full health. While several Eastern players played well in a convincing 12-3 win at Messiah on Thursday, Ryan won nearly 80 percent of his face-offs to give the Eagles a decided edge in possession throughout the game.

Ryan, Eastern's career leader in faceoffs won, will face a tough task this coming Saturday as the Eagles open Freedom Conference Play at DeSales. Bulldog senior Brennan Gmeiner has won nearly 71 percent of his face-offs for the year.

With all the extra possession, the Eagles (7-2) enjoyed a 49-28 advantage in shots over the Falcons.
