Soldano, Ferguson Score Four Goals In Rout
The Eagles improved to 11-2 this season and 4-0 in the Freedom Conference.
Eastern jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Matt Soldano and Grant Ferguson, who entered the game tied with 58 career goals, each tallied four goals in the win. Zac Ivy scored three goals, and Chris Farrar and Ron Johnson each added two. AJ Ryan, Desmond Decker, Eric Waibel, Brendan Stouber and Andrew Travers also scored.
The Eagles controlled the faceoff x, winning 20-of-30 faceoffs. AJ Ryan took 18-of-27 faceoffs and even charged all the way to net for a goal after winning the faceoff with 50 seconds left in the first half.
The Eagles fired off 60 shots to FDU-Florham's 27. In four conference games so far this season, the Eagles have outscored their opponents 74-24.
Soldano scored the first goal of the game, scoring unassisted with 13:19 to go in the first quarter. The Eagles then scored three goals in a three-minute span with Chris Farrar scoring at 7:43, Andrew Travers at 6:10 and Grant Ferguson at 5:02. Soldano closed out the quarter with another unassisted goal coming with 32 seconds to go. Eastern kept the Devils at bay in the first quarter, shutting them out and holding them to just three shots.
Eastern scored five more goals in the second quarter to enter halftime up 10-2.
Soldano scored two of Eastern's three goals in the third quarter. The Devils scored four times in the quarter to narrow the score to 13-6. The Eagles netted seven goals in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Grant Ferguson alone scored a hat-trick in a one-minute span in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles continue conference play at Misericordia on Saturday at 1 p.m.
FDU's box score originally reported the final score as 20-7. After further review, the box score and game story were changed to the actual final of 20-6.
