Baseball To Host Prospect Weekend
The prospect weekend (Aug. 1 and 2) is for high school players looking to develop skills and be identified for opportunities to play at the college level. During Friday's clinic, Morris will teach drills and exercises that he used to improve his skill level as a prospect. Athletes will then be able to showcase their skills in Saturday's showcase.
Morris will be the primary instructor. After being lightly recruited out of high school, Coach Morris enjoyed tremendous success as a collegiate player and a nine-year professional career. He was the Big 12 Player of the Year and an All-American catcher at the University of Nebraska before being drafted by the Oakland A's in the now-famous "Money Ball" draft.
Morris played seven years in the Athletics' organization. He rose as high as AAA before illness stopped his ascent. He battled back from cancer and played two years of Independent League baseball in Lancaster, Pa. He was named the Barnstormers Community Man of the Year in 2010.
He has immense baseball knowledge and perspective. He aims to teach the game in a way that is innovative and fun.
