Men Compete At Lehigh; Women's Race Canceled
However, as the afternoon wore on and the temperature reached the mid-80s, the Lehigh and Northhampton Counties' Emergency Services canceled the sixth and final collegiate race in which Eastern's women's team was competing.
The men's team had just finished its race, placing 24th out of 42 teams.
Eastern's top three finished all within four seconds of each other. Nicholas Trombley ran his personal best, leading the Eagles with a time of 28:18 in the 8K. Aaron Reed came in just behind him at 28:19 and then Colin Gordon followed with a 28:22 finish. Trombley crossed the finish line 66th of 333 runners in the White Division.
Head coach Mike Wilson expressed his disappointment with the women's team not being able to participate. "It would have been a good day to see some personal bests," he said. "I think Josey [Rupert] would have been way up in the mix, as would have been Adrienne [Borrelli]. But with the heat, who knows what would have happened."
The Eagles hope that next Saturday's meet at DeSales University will not be canceled as well.
