Simpson Named Player of the Week

ANNVILLE, Pa.--Elayna Simpson of Eastern University Women's Soccer earned Freedom Conference Player of the Week honors in the Defender/Goalkeeper category.

Simpson (Dover, Del./ Caesar Rodney), the Eagles' sophomore goalie, recorded 18 saves over Eastern's two conference games last week.

Simpson held Manhattanville to one goal in Tuesday night's tie. She saved five shots, including three during overtime.

Saturday, against the No. 12 Misericordia Cougars, Simpson stopped 13 shots (and faced 27), keeping the game scoreless until the 109th minute when the Cougars hit the game-winner. The Cougars had been averaging 6.3 goals per game against conference opponents prior to playing Eastern.

Through 14 games this season, Simpson has recorded 115 saves.

Simpson and the Eagles play at Delaware Valley College at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
