Eagles Edged By Bears
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.—Eastern Women’s Soccer fell 2-1 Wednesday night at Ursinus College in a non-conference tune-up game before the regular season’s final weekend.
Victoria Graham scored the Eagles’ goal in the 47th minute. The goal is her fourth this season.
Eastern and Ursinus battled scoreless through the first 25 minutes before the Ursinus Bears drew first blood.
Eagles’ keeper Elayna Simpson recorded four big saves in the remaining 20 minutes of the first half. She finished with 11 saves, making this the seventh game this year that she has had to make double-digit saves.
Eastern equalized the game in the 47th minute. Graham drove home the rebound off a Lydia Peachey shot to tie the game. Ursinus regained the lead in the 62nd minute.
The Eagles have a virtual play-in game on Saturday against FDU-Florham at noon; if the Eagles win, they will advance to the Freedom Conference playoffs. “We came into tonight’s game looking to build toward a very important match with FDU on the weekend,” Eagles’ head coach Dan Mouw said. :I felt like we learned a good bit about ourselves in the match and are better as a result of the game. We would have loved to have come away with a win, but I think the game helps us either way.”
While only four of the Eagles’ nine shots were on goal, some of the shots off goal were very good scoring opportunities. "We created some high quality scoring chances,” Mouw said. "Our hope is that we can create as many chances on Saturday and finish at a higher rate.”
