National Championship Experience
HOLLAND, Mich.--Eastern Volleyball took in the NCAA Championship experience on Wednesday afternoon as they prepared for their upcoming national quarterfinals match against Emory University on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles started the day with a morning practice at the host site, Hope College. The Hope College DeVos Fieldhouse, built in 2005, is the host site for the NCAA Volleyball Championships for the second year in a row.
In the afternoon, the NCAA partnered Eastern Volleyball with a local consignment shop for some community service. The Eagles worked at the Community Action Center in downtown Holland, volunteering their time by sorting toys, organizing clothing and helping decorate the store for the Christmas season.
Wednesday evening the Eagles and the other seven remaining teams attended the NCAA's All-America banquet. Eastern captains Katrina Pisch and Kearby Benak introduced Eastern Volleyball to the audience and highlighted the significance of wearing the number 117 on their wrists--the sum of all their jersey numbers, a constant reminder of the entire season being a total team effort.
The Eagles then had four All-Americans recognized for their play. Eastern senior Kearby Benak earned an Honorable Mention, junior Katrina Pisch earned Third-Team honors, and sophomore Rikki Schlager and freshman Rylie Haas earned Second-Team honors.
Eastern makes its second National Quaterfinal appearance on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
