Reichart, Giovagnoli Named All-Region

ImageKANSAS CITY, Kan.—Eastern University Men’s Soccer had two players named to the NSCAA/ Continental Tire Men’s All-Mid-Atlantic Region teams on Monday.

Sophomore Eric Giovagnoli (Royersford, Pa./ Spring-Ford) earned a spot on the All-Region First Team and senior Brandon Reichart (Telford, Pa./ Christopher Dock) earned a spot on the Third Team.

Both Reichart and Giovagnoli are making their first appearance as All-Region players. Giovagnoli, the Freedom Conference Player of the Year, finished with 12 goals and seven assists. Giovagnoli helped power an offense that averaged 2.63 goals per game, 25th best in the country.

"Whenever I talked to other coaches after games and after the season they were all talking about Gio," Eagles' head coach Mark Wagner said, "Being a First Team All-Region player gives him a good chance of becoming an All-American."

If Giovagnoli does become an All-American, he would be the first to do so from Eastern Men's Soccer.

Brandon Reichart, a strong, skilled right back, helped lead an Eastern defense that shut out teams a program-best 12 times this season. In Reichart’s four years at Eastern, the Eagles have a record of 47-21-4.

Wagner commented that the selection of two players to All-Region teams attests to the team's success as a whole this season. Reichart and Giovagnoli were critical players on an Eastern squad that finished the regular season with the best record in the Freedom Conference with a 14-4-1 overall record. Throughout the season, the Eagles were a top-10 regionally ranked team, and by the end of the regular season were ranked as high as No. 4 in the NCAA rankings at the end of the regular season.

Since joining the NCAA in 1992, Eastern has now had regionally-ranked players 15 times.
