PHILADELPHIA—Eastern Cross Country’s Josey Rupert was one of just eight area runners selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Cross Country team on Tuesday.

The Academic All-Area team is a selection of the best overall student-athletes from the Philadelphia-area’s 28 colleges, as chosen by those schools' sports information directors.

Rupert, a junior from Shickshinny, Pa., was honored for her success on the course and in the classroom. Rupert has compiled a 3.84 GPA while studying exercise science. This semester Rupert also became the first Eastern runner to ever be named to the All-Mid-East Regional team after finishing 33rd at the regional meet in November.

She continues to set school records with each race. Her 22:19 at the NCAA Regionals at Lehigh Valley is the current school record.

Josey Rupert of Eastern University Cross Country has consistently improved her 6K times in her three years at Eastern. (The lone outlier on the chart was hardly her fault, after a course marshal directed her as the lead runner to run at least an additional mile.) Since her first meet as a freshman, Rupert has cut 4 1/2 minutes from her time.
