Eagles Fall 5-4 To Conclude Arcadia Match

The match hangs in the balance!

Eastern's Tyler Schultz fought off match point to force the second tie-breaker game of the match. Schultz's valiant comeback fell just short, however, as he lost in three sets.

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Men's Tennis fell 5-4 to Arcadia University on Tuesday afternoon, six days after the two teams started the match. The match was originally suspended because of darkness with the score tied at 4-4. Rain on Monday delayed the conclusion to Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 3 singles match between Eastern's Tyler Schultz and Alexander Colton was the deciding match. They were knotted up 1-1 going into the third set when the match was suspended. Colton held off Schultz 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-2) to clinch the win for the Knights. Schultz trailed 5-4 with Colton at match point, but rallied for three straight points to tie the third set at five games a piece. Schultz then broke Colton's serve to take a 6-5 lead. Colton then broke Shultz's serve to force a tie-breaker game, and Colton pulled away 7-2 in the breaker.

The Eagles could have closed out the match earlier, but were unable to put the first two doubles matches away. Grant Williams and Dan Fowler led 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles match, but lost seven consecutive games to fall 8-6. Mylon Weaver and Kyle Berner led the No. 2 doubles 7-4 but lost the match 9-8.

Williams and Fowler bounced back in singles play with Williams winning 6-3, 6-2 and Fowler winning 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.
