Eastern University senior Logan Maurer was named the Middle Atlantic Conference's Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the year.

ANNVILLE, Pa.--Senior Logan Maurer was awarded the Middle Atlantic Conference's highest student-athlete honor on Wednesday when he was named the MAC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of 2014. The Middle Atlantic Conference office selects one senior student-athlete for each sport from the 18 schools in the MAC that exemplifies excellence on the playing field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Maurer (Lancaster, Pa./ Ephrata) in two years at Eastern, helped take the program to new heights and helped guide Eastern Men's Golf to its first ever Freedom Conference Championship.

Maurer, an accounting and finance major, has a cumulative GPA of 3.65 and is a member of Eastern's Business Honor Society. A dilligent worker in the classroom and on the course, Maurer has worked as tax professional while attending school and has lined up a job with an accounting firm after graduation in May.

Maurer has consistently been one of the top two scorers for the men's golf team and was named to the All-Freedom Conference team in 2013 after finishing fourth at the conference championships.

His head coach Mark Birtwistle has spoken highly of Maurer's character and dedication and commented that coaches and players across the league know Maurer for his friendly personality. Coach Birtwisle noted that Maurer has been a great influence on the team with his positive attitude and care for others. He is also involved with his church's local community outreach and events and is also a member of the church's band.

On Sunday, in addition to winning the Freedom Conference Championship, Maurer was awarded the Eastern Impact Award, the Athletic Department's highest distinction.
