Camrin Azzarano coaches Field Hockey captain Sarah Webb prior to a game. Azzarano will be transitioning to the full-time Field Hockey coach after coaching both Field Hockey and Women's Lacrosse for eight years. Azzarano has had success coaching both teams, winning a combined eight conference championships.

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.—Eastern University athletic director Nate Davis announced Friday that current women’s lacrosse and field hockey head coach Camrin Azzarano will be stepping down from coaching women’s lacrosse and transitioning to coaching field hockey full time. The Athletic Department will immediately begin a search for a new women’s lacrosse coach.

Coach Azzarano has spent eight years as head coach of both programs, and had been an assistant coach prior to that in both sports as well. Azzarano became the head coach for field hockey in 2004 and then women’s lacrosse in 2007. She experienced success in both positions; she has a career 67.9 percent record with six conference championships in field hockey and a 50.7 winning percentage in women’s lacrosse with two conference championships. She accomplished a rare feat by winning championships in both sports in the 2006-2007 school year.

Azzarano is excited for the future of both programs. “I think it’s in the best interest for both teams to have a single-sport head coach,” she said. “It will help them continue to grow and excel and will help add stability in recruiting future players.”

When she broke the news to the women’s lacrosse team, she said they handled the announcement with maturity. “I’m extremely proud of the group of girls in this transition,” she said. "They’ve been thoughtful and supportive of this decision, and I know they’re going to have a bright future. They’re going to bind together and continue to compete well.”

Coach Camrin Azzarano will also maintain her role as Community Outreach Coordinator.
