Eagles Make First NCAA Appearance

Logan Maurer led the Eagles with an 86 (+14) in the first round of the NCAA Championships.

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Eastern Men’s Golf made the program's first appearance in the NCAA Championships on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles, after winning the Freedom Conference Championship, were one of 41 teams nationally to make the NCAA Championships in Greensboro, N.C., at the Grandover Resort .

Eastern played on Grandover’s par-72, 7,210-yard East Course on Tuesday, accumulating a team total of 367.

Senior Logan Maurer paced the Eagles with an 86 (+14). He finished strong on his final four holes with three pars and a birdie. Ryan Torresin also had a birdie on a par-three hole, and Ethan Herr had a birdie on a par-five and a par-four hole. Torresin, Eastern’s regular No. 1, dropped to fourth with a 96 after a couple holes with large numbers.

Andrew Barbin Jr. finished with a 92 and had a team-best nine pars. Herr finished a stroke behind Barbin, and Mason Waldhauser finished with a 97.

The Eagles move on to round two Wednesday morning, teeing off at 7:30 a.m. To move on to the third round, the Eagles will have to make the cut of the top 15 teams in the field.
