Eagles Predicted To Make Playoff Push In 2014
ANNVILLE, Pa.--The Middle Atlantic Conferences office released the 2014 Freedom Conference preseason coaches' poll on Thursday. The Freedom Conference coaches predicted that Eastern Field Hockey will finish in fourth place this season, which would be good enough for the final spot in the conference playoffs. The Eagles received 33 points in the poll and also tallied two first place votes.
The Eagles are looking to return to the playoffs after missing out on the postseason for the first time since 1996. Eastern finished with a 3-4 conference last year while going 9-10 overall.
Eastern Field Hockey graduated its second and third leading scorers from last year—Jess Jaindl and Abby Wagner—as well as all-conference midfielder Sarah Webb. However, the Eagles do return their leading scorer and conference Defensive Player of the Year Megan Bolton. Bolton, an All-Region athlete, scored 16 goals last season and recorded 7 defensive saves. In addition to Bolton, junior Lauren Gay and seniors Alexa Borrelli and Hannah Bartholomew will provide leadership as captains.
Eastern opens the season at perennial NJAC power Montclair St. on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. The Eagles then play at Haverford College at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 before playing their home-opener on Sept. 6 against Richard Stockton College.
